Hong Kong has Awarded its First Contract for Electronic and Electrical Equipment Recycling
The Environmental Protection Department (EPD) has awarded a contract to a joint venture consisting of the ALBA group from Germany and Integrated Waste Solutions Group Holdings Limited (IWS) for the development of a Waste Electrical and Electronic Recycling Facility.
Located in the Tuen Mun EcoPark, the facility is designed to process upto 30,000 tonnes of electrical and electronic equipment per year. Some of the items expected to be dealt with by the facility are computers, televisions, air-conditioners and refrigerators. The recycling process will produce reusable raw materials.
Key features of the facility are a Public Education Centre and a Visitor Gallery that allows full viewing of the processing areas.
