Eiffel Tower Replica Reaches its Peak
As part of ‘The Parisian’ development which has been commissioned by Sands China, a half scale replica of the Eiffel Tower has been constructed and ‘topped out’ recently.
The development is based on the Cotai Strip in Macau and forms part of the integrated French themed hotel complex.
One of the biggest considerations on the design of the project was the extreme weather conditions, adding heightened importance to ensuring that the Equivalent Static Wind Load (ESWL) calculations were accurate, so that in the event of a typhoon, the Tower would remain sturdy and safe.
There were also logistical problems that were addressed by the construction team, such as re-sizing the delivery racks to maximise efficiency when to shipping the oversized steel sections that were needed to construct the Tower. To increase efficiency and to lower costs further, the use of a 28 ton short jib crane was utilised on the project to work in tandem with a luffing jib tower crane.
